South Shore Centre for the Arts is pleased to offer ballroom dance classes with Brooke Bocek. Social Dance Essentials will feature a variety of ballroom dance techniques and will vary on a monthly basis.  Classes are 60 minutes, open to individuals and couples, and will be taught by Brooke Bocek, a certified professional ballroom instructor. Cost for the class is $40 per month per person.

Class Information and Description:

Individuals and couples welcome (no partner necessary).  Clothing-whatever is comfortable. Shoes-smooth soles work best for turns and spins, but comfort is most important. Class material is cumulative. 

West Coast Swing West Coast Swing is a partner dance characterized by a distinctive elastic look that is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor.  West Coast Swing can be danced to many types of music such as blues, rock, country, R&B, disco, funk, club, and pop.  It is a wonderful dance to learn good leading and following techniques with room for improvisation.

Nightclub 2 Step Nightclub 2 Step is a club dance that is great for mid-tempo ballads and slower romantic music.  It has a more relaxed hold than typical ballroom dances and follows a Quick-Quick-Slow pattern.  The class will introduce basic footwork as well as turn patterns.

Introduction to Cha Cha Cha cha is an energetic and sensual dance that has African and Cuban rhythms melded into a Latin beat. It is a popular dance that can be used at Latin nightclubs as well as almost any social event with fast lively music. Cha cha footwork (forward and back/progressive style basic), timing, leading/following, and a few turn combinations will be covered in this class.

Brooke Bocek has been dancing for over twenty years and has focused her attention on teaching Ballroom and partner styles of dancing for the past six years.  She is a certified professional instructor and has trained with some of the best Ballroom dancers and instructors in the country. She also received numerous top teacher awards. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College Chicago in Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management.
